 10 MOST IMPORTANT
1. Spend time with your kids. Just hang-out with them. It’s one of the best ways to get to know them, & for them to get to know you. 2. Learn how to listen & ask questions. There’s an art & a science to it. 3. Use lots of positive reinforcement. Every negative takes 6 positives to balance it. 4. Set a good example. Kids follow what we do, not what we say. 5. Find out your child’s learning style. How your child’s brain takes in & processes information is THE KEY TO EVERYTHING !!! 6. Behavior is 80% genetically programmed, & 20% environmentally reinforced. Family dynamics aren’t quite as influential as we once thought. 7. Self-esteem comes from self-image. Self-image is how kids perceive themselves. Their opinion of themselves. Change their image of themselves & you’ll change their self-esteem. 8. Learning differences are the biggest determinant of self-image. Adult descriptions are second. 9. Children can have Mood Disorders (Bipolar or Manic-Depression). 10. Rewards aren’t all they’re cracked-up to be. Rewards tend to increase reward-seeking behavior. The behavior we’re hoping to modify remains unchanged. Michael G. Gingerich, LCSW, Ph.D. ÂMike Gingerich, LCSW, Ph.D. |
